United Service to Africa (USTA) in collaboration with Sekyedomasi Association of North America undertook a free medical, dental and eye care health fair for the Sekyedomasi community on Oct 12th, 2023.
At the end of the exercise, 274 people underwent eye screening, of which 100 people were given free reading and distant glasses respectively. In addition, 151 people were screened for diabetes and hypertension respectively. Over 50 people were also screened for various dental disorders. The following dental procedures (Filling 11, Extraction 15 and deep cleaning 20) were done for the people respectively. Overall, about 500 people from the community benefited from the health screening. The value of the free services provided to the community was about $5000 USD.
Sekyedomasi Association of North America also donated assorted medical and surgical equipment and supplies worth of over 25000 USD to the Sekyedomasi Traditional Council and was subsequently handed over to the Medical Director of Sekyedomasi Government Hospital. Presentation was done on the behalf of the Association by the Vice Chairman, Mr. Owusu, Formal Secretary, Mr. Sarfo, Project Committee Members: Mr. Habakkuk and Dr Kwame Agyeman respectively. The representatives of both the traditional council and Medical Director of hospital were very grateful to the Association for the donation.
In conclusion, the health screening was a success. The beneficiaries were grateful for the care the USTA Team provided with the support from the association. It is the hope that the association will partner with USTA Team in Ghana Missions 2024 to include surgical procedures to the benefit of the vulnerable in Sekyedomasi Community. USTA will also want to congratulate the association for the donation to the Hospital but will encourage the association to do more for the hospital to help improve health care delivery of the people of Sekyedomasiman.
